Portia is conducting research into the career attributes of successful female scientists by analysing 1200 examples of the CVs listed on the AcademiaNet - the portal to excellent women academics - originated and funded by the Robert Bosch Foundation. The study aims to identify decisions and paths in the careers of 'excellent' scientists to help more junior researchers systematically build 'composite' role model of career paths that are appropriate for them. The project is funded by the Robert Bosch Foundation and is conducted in partnership with Fraunhofer Gesellschaft. "Whilst 'role models' are often referred to when career advice is discussed, there is little understanding how role models actually encourage and support career aspirations and decisions. This project will promote the use of role models as a more effective, learning tool capable of supporting explorations by junior researchers of the career pathway attributes of their more senior colleagues" said Portia's Director, Dr Elizabeth Pollitzer.
